Most of our tours begin at Maibara Station, a convenient stop on the shinkansen line and the gateway to the northern Lake Biwa region.

Getting Here

From Kyoto Station:

  • The most convenient option is the shinkansen (bullet train).
  • Travel time: About 19 minutes (one way).
  • Seat Type: Reserved seats not necessary
(short ride, plus non-reserved offers flexibility to catch another train in case running late).
  • Fare: ¥2,640 one way per adult (about ¥5,280 round-trip).
  • Alternatively, the JR local train takes about 1 hour, at a fare of ¥1,170. If you choose the local train, arrival time may vary. Please let us know in advance.

Important Note on the Shinkansen:

  • Not all bullet trains stop at Maibara.
  • Avoid the Nozomi bullet trains, which do not stop at Maibara.
  • Only some Hikari and Kodama bullet trains stop at Maibara.
  • We provide details on the best train(s) to catch for your tour – please follow this guidance to ensure a smooth and punctual start.
